Guides for UK hobby listeners
Original long-form notes on lawful listening, first scanners, amateur VHF/UHF, PMR446, marine VHF and airband — written for this site, not copied from another wiki.
We have published a set of original guides so Cross Reference UK is more than a search box and a table.
They cover:
- Lawful hobby listening in the UK — what we catalogue, and what we will not
- Your first scanner or SDR
- Amateur VHF and UHF
- PMR446 and UK CB
- Marine VHF for listeners
- Airband ATIS / VOLMET / 8.33
- How to contribute a listing
There is also a proper About page. The database is still a community notebook — amateur, licence-free, and public markers only. Emergency-service dumps stay off the site.
If you have been using the search with no explanation of why a row exists, start with the lawful-listening guide. Then tell us what you can hear from your QTH.
