Scanner and hobby-radio shorthand used on Cross Reference UK listings and the forum.

TermMeaning
ATISAutomatic Terminal Information Service — looped airfield weather/runway info, AM airband.
CCDMR colour code (0–15). Must match the repeater or you hear nothing useful.
CTCSS / DCSAnalogue squelch tones. CTCSS is a sub-audible tone; DCS is a digital code.
DMRDigital Mobile Radio. Two time slots on one 12.5 kHz channel; talkgroups sit on a slot.
D-STARIcom digital voice/data. Modules (A/B/C) label 23 cm / 70 cm / 2 m on a gateway.
NACNetwork Access Code on P25. Hex value the radio must match.
NFMNarrow FM — typical for amateur 12.5 kHz channels and PMR446 analogue.
NGROrdnance Survey National Grid Reference (e.g. TQ 082 769). Converted from lat/long on listings.
NXDNNarrow digital voice (Icom/Kenwood). RAN is the radio access number.
P25APCO Project 25 digital voice. Common on some imported gear; NAC matters.
PMR446Licence-free 446 MHz handheld allocation in the UK/EU.
RANNXDN Radio Access Number, analogous to a colour code.
TG / TGIDTalkgroup identity on DMR/NXDN. Local, regional and network groups differ.
TSDMR time slot 1 or 2.
USBUpper sideband — used on HF amateur and some HF VOLMET.
VOLMETMet broadcast for aircraft, often HF USB as well as VHF.
8.338.33 kHz VHF airband channel spacing. Channel display ≠ always the true frequency.
